January 2009

The race is ON!
2009 has barely even started but SLS3 athletes are already on the go again and doing well. On January 17th Petr Vabrousek raced Challenge Wanaka, New Zealand - his first Ironman of the new year.

Petr finished third, saying: "(Coming) ...off the snow, I had a great race in Wanaka and after the fastest run of the day (2:48), I managed to finish 3rd in this beautiful race. Back to skis again untill the Malaysian heat in 5 weeks..."

Petr is sporting our new SLS3 FX Race Short and Compression Sox.

70.3 South Africa
Also frolicking in the Southern hemisphere were Fraser Cartmell and Konstantin Bachor. Cartmell, who had a bit of a scare a few weeks ago with a hospital visit, managed to finish second behind strong local hero Raynard Tissink; and German Pro Bachor pulled off an awesome third place after dreadful weeks of training in icy cold Germany.

Britain’s Ironcouple Stephen Bayliss and Bella Comerford where married this past Sunday at 1:30pm in the beautiful grounds of Murrayshall House. The couple married in a civil service in front of family and friends.

The pair, who first met in 2003 at the ITU World Long Distance Championships in Sweden and started dating a year later, have been inseparable for the past 3 years barely spending more than a few days apart at a time.

On their special day Bella Bayliss (as she is known both in her personal and sporting lives) commented; "Stephen and I are married now!  We are so happy.  It is just what we wanted.  Our wedding was perfect.  We had both our families and so many of our friends with us.

 CONGRATULATIONS, MR. AND MRS. BAYLISS!!!

Ironman Arizona - the second
Tempe, AZ was once again the venue for an Ironman. For the first time ever a race venue has been hosting two Ironman races within the same year. SLS3 was well represented.
Brian Lavelle managed to exit the water and make it onto the bike in first place, sporting our newest product, the compression sleeves. Both Becky and Brian have been testing them for us in shorter races where time is much more of the essence than in an Ironman. The Lavelles have already given the sleeves their thumbs up!

Jordan Rapp finished third, pro rookie and new SLS3 athlete Ben Hoffman  scored an awesome 6th place, and Petr Vabrousek, sporting sleeves and our 2009 shorts, finished his 13th Ironman of the season in 8th place. Brian Lavelle had been sick in the days before the race but managed to tough it out and finish in 12th.

Becky Lavelle 3rd at 70.3 Worlds
One week after Ironman Florida the 70.3 World Champs were scheduled to happen. SLS3 athlete Becky Lavelle raced in Clearwater, FL at the 70.3 World Championships. Battling with the best of the best she managed to finish the hot race with a strong third place.
Becky is especially happy to finish off what turned out to be a solid and superb season after more than a rocky start at the beginning of the year.

Ironman Florida
Just 3 weeks after Ironman Hawaii SLS3 athletes Petr Vabrousek and Bella Comerford raced IM Florida in Panama City Beach.
For Petr, this meant the 11th Ironman race of 2008 - and he finished Third in 8:28h.
For Bella, this meant first place for the fifth time and a nice birthday gift to herself. Now it is time to help fiancee Stephen Bayliss focus on his race, this weekend's 70.3 Champs in Florida. After that, Britain's power couple will get married.
