Heleen bij de VaateHeleen bij de Vaate

Originally from the Netherlands, Heleen took her first Dutch Ironman title in 2004. As a result, Heleen started seriously to focus on triathlon at the pro-level. At first, she combined triathlon with her full time job. In 2006, she raced the World Championships in Hawaii for the first time and finished 13th between a lot of other woman who were full time pro triathletes. Although she was 32 years old already, her level was still improving so she made the decision to become a full-time pro in 2007. This really paid off in her first 2 pro-seasons, with a second place at Ironman Florida 2007 and her first Ironman victory in Arizona 2008! This season, Heleen took 8th place at IM 70.3 Austria as she accumulates points towards another IM Championship in Kona this fall.

She LOVED the event and has been competing in triathlon races ever since. She had always wanted to do the Ironman-distance and did her first one in 2006. It was a smaller race in Switzerland (Bodensee Tri Challenge) which she won in 10:12. This is also where she did one of her best Ironman Marathon performances with a sub 3:20h run split.

Now, she has finished 8 IM distance races -placing top 10 at IM Germany (2007&2008), IM Wisconsin (2008) and IM Nice (2009). Last year, she did Challenge Barcelona where she came 4th which was one of her best results.

Linda’s focus this year is on Challenge Copenhagen and maybe another Challenge or IM race later on during the year. Her best IM time so far is 9:47 and she hopes to improve on that this year.
